This past week, my four year old cousin and I decided that we wanted to check out the Botanical Gardens; We weren’t sure what to expect, but in all honesty, it was better than we even anticipated! Even the walk from the subway to the park was beautiful, with shady tree lined sidewalks most of the way.
Once inside the gardens, we were able to explore through tons of twisty turning paths through rock gardens, herb gardens and around beautiful grass fields and ponds. In the ponds there were lots of adorable baby turtles and huge coy fish of all colors (including NEON orange, my cousin’s favorite color!). We ended up setting out a picnic blanket with snacks and crafting/coloring supplies and spending a few hours just relaxing and enjoying the calm outdoors. It was a great way to escape the craziness of the city, and honestly felt like we had left New York.
Overall, it was a great place for all age groups, even kids! My cousin even brought his favorite stuffed animal and had an amazing time showing him all the turtles and plants. (“OOOOHH I wonder what’s THIS way!!” runs away hyperventilating with excitement)
The best part is, it’s really reasonably priced. It is normally ten dollars admission, but students with IDs get in for five, and kids under 12 are free. Tuesdays and Saturdays ten-noon are even FREE! (website-http://www.bbg.org/)
Overall, an amazing place to visit. I just wish I had gotten more pictures, but as we all know kids can be distracting, so until next time!
